Power Generation & Marine Engines
The division has a long track record in the design, development and manufacture of lean-burn reciprocating gas engines. Downsizing recently, due to a reduced demand in the marine market, the organisation is seeing a growth in its targeted power generation market. This sudden growth meant that the company was struggling to meet committed delivery schedules leading to large, extra, expediting costs inbound and customer deliveries. These consequential charges created an environment where teams were blaming each other for the delays and increased costs and frustration levels were very high.
Coiniston Cook was engaged to support the leadership team in developing a strategy to resolve long term issues whilst supporting the tactical ability of the organisation to meet current demands. Our brief also extended to developing the leadership’s capability in the process and developing the high potential team members.
Having conducted a two week review we identified the areas of key concern (detailed in the diagram below ) and developed a road map to resolve the issues with the leadership’s first lines. We then developed a’3s for each of these key areas which in turn produced Tactical Implementation Plans.
We also developed a set of KPI’s to ensure the organisation was able to navigate and move from opinion based debate to data driven decisions. We worked with each department to develop this for each team
In conjunction with Think Works we developed a two day leadership development conference, (see agenda excel file)
Each department had an aligned plan with KPIs and reports (see example below).

Since our involvement the team has continued the work and have several large power generation contracts. The business is currently undergoing diligence for its sale and we hope to be involved again in the future.
We remain in bi monthly contact with the leadership for advice and debate.
